Yearlong Celebration of Great Reading Begins February 27
During the next 12 months, the Aiken County Public Library will host four scholar-led book discussions and a children’s event, all based on award-winning and popular books. Multiple copies of each of the featured titles will be available at least six weeks prior to the programs.
The first book selected for discussion is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society written by Mary Ann Shaffer. This celebrated book has been described “as a celebration of the written word in all its guises.” Copies of the book are now available at the library's reference desk. Ilona Law of the University of South Carolina-Aiken leads the book discussion for this title on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
The Aiken Friends of the Library Sponsor Amazon Wish List
The Friends of the Aiken County Public Library invite patrons to make a wish come true by purchasing a new book, CD, or DVD for the Aiken County Public Library through the Amazon.com’s Wish List program. Patrons can use the Wish List link from either the library or the Friends’ website to see the items on the library’s wish list. The Amazon Wish List consists of high-quality books and audio-visual materials selected by library staff. Due to the budget cuts in State funding, the library is not otherwise able to afford these titles.
When a patron buys the items on the library’s Amazon.com Wish List, they are mailed to the library’s processing center. As an added perk, patrons who purchase wish list items for the Aiken County Public Library may choose to be the first to check them out by entering a note in the "gift option" section.
All donations are tax deductible as the law allows. Donors are advised to keep their receipts from Amazon.com in order to take advantage of tax deductions. |
