Lost or Damaged Materials
Charges for lost ABBE materials will be the replacement cost of the item plus a processing fee of $5.00 per item. Replacement costs vary according to the material type. Overdue fines will not be charged for lost materials. Damaged materials will be assessed a fee based on the extent of the damage.
Library Cards
A resident is anyone who lives, works, attends school or pays property taxes in Aiken, Bamberg, Barnwell, or Edgefield County. Non-resident library cards are $20.00 per year.
Lost or Damaged Library Cards
If your library card is lost or stolen notify the library immediately to prevent its unauthorized use. There is a $2.00 charge to replace a library card.(Valid ID required.) There is no charge to replace the barcode on your library card.
Bad Checks
A charge of $25.00 will be assessed for each bad check.
Bookdrop Fee
Any audio or video item returned to a bookdrop will result in a $1.00 charge.

Materials Recovery Program
The ABBE Regional Library System encourages library users to return materials and to pay fines on time.
What happens when your items are....
7 days past due:
A computer-activated courtesy telephone call or e-mail is attempted.
14 days past due:
A second computer-activated courtesy telephone call or
e-mail is attempted.
28 days past due:
The library mails a printed notice listing overdue items and related expenses to you.
42 days past due:
Overdue items are converted to "lost" status and replacement costs and processing fees are added to your account.
43 days past due:
ABBE forwards your account to a collection agency. A $10 service fee is added to your account.
44 days past due:
The collection agency begins a series of phone calls and letters to you.
120 days past due:
The collection agency reports your overdue account to a national credit bureau which may affect your credit rating.
