Cold Mountain, by South Carolina Author Charles Frazier, is the first of five novels to be presented between September 2024 and March 2025 as part of the discussion series, LET’S TALK ABOUT IT (LTAI) – SOUTHERN NOVELS ON PAGE AND SCREEN. With discussions led by USC-Aiken humanities scholars, LTAI is more than your average book club! Participants read, watch, and then compare the novels to their film adaptations.
The novel Cold Mountain looks at the impact of the Civil War on Inman and his sweetheart, Ada. Inman, a young Confederate soldier who is injured during the explosive 1864 battle of Petersburg, Virginia, is not the man he used to be. He slowly makes his way home to Cold Mountain, North Carolina. In his travels, Inman encounters a menagerie of interesting and colorful characters. Ada, too, has changed, no longer a flighty belle but a hard-working farm woman. Will love be the same?
