The Color Purple, a 1982 epistolary novel (and Pulitzer Prize winner) by Georgia author Alice Walker, is the third of five novels to be presented between September 2024 and March 2025 as part of the discussion series, LET’S TALK ABOUT IT (LTAI) – SOUTHERN NOVELS ON PAGE AND SCREEN. With discussions led by USC-Aiken humanities scholars, LTAI is more than your average book club! Participants read, watch, and then compare the novels to their film adaptations.
“This is the story of two sisters—one a missionary in Africa and the other a child wife living in the South—who sustain their loyalty to and trust in each other across time, distance, and silence. Beautifully imagined and deeply compassionate, this classic novel of American literature is rich with passion, pain, inspiration, and an indomitable love of life.”
Let’s Talk About It (LTAI) is intended for ages 18 and older
