1000 Books Before Kindergarten1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Aiken County Public Library
You and your child can read over 1000 books in a year if you read 3 a day together! Sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten at the Aiken Jackson, Edgefield, Barnwell, Bamberg, or Denmark Library. Every time your baby, toddler, or preschooler has 100 books read to them, they are awarded with a fun surprise! 1000 Books Before Kindergarten helps children develop critical skills that will make learning to read easier.

Made possible by the Friends of the Aiken County Public Library, Friends of the Jackson Branch Library, Friends of the Edgefield County Public Library through Wells Fargo, and the Tri-County Community Foundation.

  • Children can visit the library after every 100 books to receive a sticker and these other fun rewards:
  • Child's name on the 1,000 Books display
  • Read to our giant stuffed bear, Mr. Teddy
  • Glitter maraca
  • Book bag
  • Child's name in their favorite library book
  • Free paperback book
  • Completion certificate & intercom announcement in the library
  • Any child who has not yet entered kindergarten is eligible for the program.

Elevator out of serviceThe elevator at the Aiken County Public Library has been taken out of service for interior refurbishment and upgrades to its electrical system.

Please return all materials inside if possible, or visit one of our other Aiken County library branches.

If you need curbside assistance
during business hours, call the
circulation desk at 642‐2020 ext. 1121.

Patrons are encouraged to visit any of five library branch locations in Aiken County, all of which are accessible. Branch libraries are located in Jackson, Langley, New Ellenton, North Augusta, and Wagener. For hours of operation and directions, visit the LIBRARY LOCATIONS section of the library's website.

Book Return


Return library materials inside at the first floor book return and enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card! A random winner will be selected when the elevator is back in service.

In recognition of the Library’s fresh coat of paint, The Friends of the Aiken Public Library present three special art prints that depict our historic building. The prints, which are on display on the second floor, are available for sale at reduced pricing this month. All 3 prints may be purchased for $10. Individual prints can also be purchased separately.

Cloud Library Kiosk

A Cloud Library Kiosk has been installed at the Aiken County Public Library. It allows library users a fun, interactive way to browse and discover digital content right in the library. The large touch screen shows shelves of e-books and subject lists. There are also tools which can be used to search for specific content.

You can check out books to your account where they will be waiting for download to your smartphone, tablet, laptop or computer. All the titles are available on the Cloud Library portion of the ABBE Digital Branch.

The Aiken Friends of the Library Sponsor Amazon Wish List
The Friends of the Aiken County Public Library invite patrons to make a wish come true by purchasing a new book, CD, or DVD for the Aiken County Public Library through the’s Wish List program. Patrons can use the Wish List link from either the library or the Friends’ website to see the items on the library’s wish list. The Amazon Wish List consists of high-quality books and audio-visual materials selected by library staff. Due to the budget cuts in State funding, the library is not otherwise able to afford these titles.

When a patron buys the items on the library’s Wish List, they are mailed to the library’s processing center. As an added perk, patrons who purchase wish list items for the Aiken County Public Library may choose to be the first to check them out by entering a note in the "gift option" section.

All donations are tax deductible as the law allows. Donors are advised to keep their receipts from in order to take advantage of tax deductions.
